- Mt. Kilimanjaro
Location-Kilimanjaro Region
Mount Kilimanjaro is an inactive volcano, located in the northern part of Tanzania. The mountain is 19,331 feet high, and is the highest mountain in Africa, as well as the highest freestanding mountain in the world, with a peak covered in snow – most probably the only trace of proper snow in Africa. It has three volcanic cones known as Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Both Mawenzi and Shira are extinct, however Kibo is dormant and could erupt again. Uhuru Peak is the highest summit on Kibo’s crater ring and is 19,318 feet high (as of 2014). There are six usual trekking routes to the summit, and other mountaineering routes, as well as nature trails on the lower reaches. You can enjoy trout fishing or a visit to the beautiful Chala crater lake on the mountain’s southeastern slopes. It is advised to visit between December to February when the conditions are warmest, or during July to September, which are the drier, cooler months.
Serengeti National Park
Location- Mara Region
Serengeti National Park is the biggest national park in Tanzania, and attracts millions of tourists from all over the world. This park is populated by numerous wild animals such as zebras, lions, antelopes, tigers, hyenas, cheetahs and elephants. Animals can be seen from within the hotel, and safaris and tour guides can be arranged with ease.
Pangani
Location- Tanga Region
The region of Pangani played a vital role during the slave trade, and after the Zanzibari Sultan signed the treaty with Britain, Pangani became the place to smuggle slaves into and out of the region directly to Pemba. Due to its coastal location, it has access to a port and also boasts a big fishing industry. Beach resorts and Pangani’s interesting history have attracted tourists to come visit the region, which is approximately 45 kilometers south of Tanga.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
One of the main feature of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is the Ngorongoro Crater, which is the world’s largest inactive, unfilled volcanic caldera, which is still intact. The crater is 2,000 feet deep, and covers about 260 square kilometers. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is home to many wild animals such as wildebeests, rhinoceroses, and has the largest lion population in Tanzania. It is also home to one of the local tribes known as the Maasais. You can also find there the Olduvai Gorge, the archeological area where the earliest known specimens of humans were discovered. As a result, it is known as the seat of humanity and research is still carried out here.
